I have quite a fondness for whimsical illustrations, so I was really pleased to receive this beautiful birthday card featuring the work of Emily Winfield Martin. 
I thought I’d find out some more about her work and was surprised and delighted to find that not only is she a talented illustrator, she also writes books and makes some lovely whimsical toys.

One of the things I would really love to be able to do is to draw, and I have lately been thinking about doing just that, but it’s a bit hard to start. Can anyone recommend a good book for an absolute beginner? Or perhaps a book is not the answer… Maybe all I need is a set of pencils? Or even just one pencil and a piece of paper?
